Motherhood, Sisterhood, Krasnerhood
This project tells a story of the inner life of a mother, the importance of women holding each other, and the wisdom of a cat. In "Motherhood, Sisterhood, Krasnerhood" I move away from depictions of my anatomy and now begin to focus on representations of my exterior self, the challenge of sitting with dichotic emotions like hope and fear, the surrogate mothers and sisters that made me brave, and bring fragments of landscape back into my work. My cat, Krasner (named for the artist Lee Krasner) sneakily makes her mark in some paintings. Her watchful eye and wandering paw reminds me to focus on the process; the muddling part of making.
